Brief of Social Science Information System(SSIS)

The IASSI under its programme of National Social Science Information has been collecting from its member-institutions, information on on-going or currently completed Social Science related research projects.  The items of information collected from individual institutions are: Names of the projects, Principal objectives, Scope and Coverage, Names of respective Projects Leader, Character of the Project (based on field data, published data) and sponsoring agency.  The information gathered from individual institutions is classified according to area and sub-area of research and the theme of research.  The information is entered in the site in a form which will enable individuals obtain answers to many queries.

The information collected from the institutions has been organized with a view to bringing out the extent and spread of researches in social science area in the country.  The focus is on research projects.  The projects which are currently going on or recently completed in different institutions has been classified according to broad area of research, such as economy related, society related, polity related.  The broad area has further been broken into research sub-area and theme of research.  Each project, given a name at the researching end, has been given an identity in the above classificatory order.  Each research project, under this scheme, is related to a broad area of research, particular sub-area within the area of research and a theme, i.e. a specific field of issue.
The information system, therefore, can provide a list of research projects, currently on-going or just completed in each broad research area or in each research sub-area and/or each theme of research.  Such list can also be separated by state where the researches are being conducted.  The system can also provide names of the institutions where the projects are carried on with their addresses.

Under the Information system, details about the objective and scope and coverage of each individual research project have also been collected.  It is possible, therefore, after separating projects according to area, sub-area and theme of research, to find out the objectives of individual projects, their scope and coverage and also the names of the project leaders.  Prints of such information could also be obtained.
The information has been entered by proper codification. A user guide for use of the system and for retrieving the information has been provided as part of the system.
